2. Rules of scores for the ranking for athletes in ESL Competitions
a) The number of competitions to count for the overall ranking is the result of all the events entered by the rider. The goal is to encourage the maximum of participations.
b) The events may use one of the following scale scores:
- 1000 points for the winner
The other participants will be allocated to them the points as listed (coming information)
a) The selection of judges will be made by the Council of Arbitration of the sanctioning body of the country where the competition is held according to rules specified in the arbitration. The chief of judges and the technical director have authority to perform the necessary substitutions to ensure the quality and cohesion of the panel of judges. Should not be placed on the panel, judges with other interests. (Ex: a person connected with a company that sponsors a participating athlete, judges that are not authorized by the national sanctioning body or who are competing in the same category).
b) In all events the panel should consist of a minimum of 6, with 4 judges on the panel of a given heat, including the finals, and a chief of judges.
c) In exceptional circumstances, where there is risk of not finishing the competition, it is possible to divide the panel of 3 judges per heat, a mini-panel of 4 judges (one for support). If this situation is expected the Board of Arbitration shall be notified to be taken the necessary precautions to have 4 judges per panel.
d) The judges and athletes should expect until the tabulation is completed to see sheets of heat.
e) No judge may comment on the chances of success of any competitor in the event, the public, media, or other competitors, under penalty of expulsion from the panel and subsequent penalty.
f) A judge is unable to compete on circuits where he/she has already tried this year, and vice versa.
a) The "take-off" is the beginning of a wave by the skimboarder. The "take-off" is when an athlete puts both feet on top of the board and both hands off the board.
b) The wave will only be scored by the judges if the athlete had carried out the "take-off."
a) The competitor must make radical maneuvers with control, on the most critical sections of the wave with speed, strength and fluidity, to maximize its potential to score.
b) The innovative / progressive Skimboard, and the variety of the repertoire of maneuvers, will be taken into consideration in the allocation of points.
c) The extension, distance and size of the wave ridden by the athlete to the solid entry in the sand, should also contribute to the allocation of points.
d) The competitor who runs these criteria with a higher degree of difficulty, control and determination (commitment / risk) should be rewarded with the highest scores.
e) Maneuvers that finished behind the wave are considered incomplete.
a) Interference will be marked to an athlete who has not the priority and harms the potential score of an athlete with priority.
b) The athlete that commits interference will see its second best wave punctuation be divided by two. If the athlete committees another interference, to the best wave will be divided by two and by the third interference, the athlete will be disqualified.
c) The interference will be marked according to the national sanctioning body of Skimboard, where the competition is held.
d) Definition of priority:
1. The athlete who has priority on the wave is who makes the "take-off first. The priorities for when you have three or more athletes in the same situation, follows this rule.
2. In a situation where none of the athletes have made the "take-offs, priority is given to the first athlete to start the race.
In manual or computerized system: to decide the winner by this system, the highest grade and lowest in each wave, by the judges, is eliminated, and the other grades are added and divided by the number of notes so if you find the average.
When there are only 3 judges, all notes will be added up and found the average. At the end of the heat, the best waves of the athlete, as defined in terms of competition, will be added. The athlete who achieves the highest sum will be considered winner.
It should always be counted the best two or three waves of athletes for the sum that determines the classification. The number of waves to account should be the same in all the phases that make up the competition.
In manual or computerized system, the tie will be broken adding (if we are in a best 3 waves) the two best waves, followed by the best wave, if the tie still remains use will be the four best waves, best five waves etc.. Only in the case of a tie not solvable, there will be a break heat between the involved. this situation is identical to another paragraph of best waves Ex: 2, 4, etc.
In case of a ranking tie at the end of the circuit and to award the title of National Champion in the event it is not at all possible tie between the tied athletes, there will be a tie break heat between them to decide the title and to be assigned.
In all the events will be used format of 3-4 competitors per heat. In this format, at least 50% of the competitors have to go to the next stage. The seeding process was designed so that there are 8 heats of phase with a larger number of possible seeds.
1st Phase: 8 heats (1st and 2nd advance to the 2nd phase)
2nd Phase: 8 heats (entry of 14 backs, 2 wildcards, 1st and 2nd advance to 1 / 8 to final)
1 / 8 de Final: 8 heats (entry of 16 tops, 1st and 2nd advance to quarter-finals)
¼ Final: 4 heats (1st and 2nd advance to the final ½)
½-final: 2 heats (1st and 2nd advance to final)
Final: 1 heat
Any gap in this presentation should be resolved by the technical director of competition, by analogy to this format.
You can perform from the quarter-finals, “man-on-man” heats, observing the same rules of seeding.
7. Time and counting the waves
The duration of the heats and the number of waves permitted to athletes, should be determined as follows:
-Heat to 7 minutes: (coming information)
-Heat to 10 minutes: 8 waves
- Heats of 15 minutes: 10 waves
- Heats of 20, 25 or 30 minutes: 12 or 15 waves
The time of heat should be the standard of 10 or 15 minutes duration; one should meet the same requirements of competition throughout the series.
There will be an attempt to inform competitors of the completion of its waves. If the athlete is above the limit of waves in the heat will be punished in accordance with (coming information). In addition to the athlete who remains in the competition area after the completion of waves will be punished with too much interference if:
- Make an extra wave depriving another competitor, or not, to use.
- Interfere with another competitor by running, position, or other reason.
The official time of all heats will be made by the head of judges.
All heats must start from a limited area or zone of surf beach, under the direction of technical director. A visual or sound warning of the final 1 minute may be showed before the end of each heat.
Should be used a siren or horn tone to start and finish the heats, a tap and two taps to start to finish, respectively.
The head of judges indicate the beginning of heat.
A disk system (or light) with at least 1 square meter should be used, green for the duration of the heats and yellow for the final 5 minutes.
The commentator should make a countdown of 5 seconds at the end of the heat and when it reaches zero, the heat must end immediately.
The first touch should sound immediately when the commentator reaches zero. The official start and end of heat takes place when the first touch of horn is audible to the chief of the judges.
The disk should be in neutral position when the commentator reaches zero in its countdown.
Any athlete who rides a wave before / after the heat and used during the previous / next heat will be fined or penalized in accordance with (coming information).
An athlete should not catch a wave in the competition area before the start of his heat, as this wave will not be scored.
A wave started before the moment of the start of the heat will not be counted.
Under no circumstances should be given any extension of time after the heat has started. In the case of a heat is interrupted for any reason, it will be stopped by technical director or head of judges and will resume in time duration to be stopped and place to complete the time originally set.
There will be exceptions if the head of the judges in accordance with the technical director, thinks that the heat should be re-disputed due to no one had a definite advantage when the cancellation or the conditions have been amended, making it impossible for judges to keep the same scale. When reaching to half the heat no one has caught the heat waves can be canceled, and later disputed. This decision rests with the head of judges and technical director.
The technical director is the only person who can give the exact program of competition. If any other staff member of the competition is questioned and send some information wrong, any claim or other problem may not be cause for protest. If the technical director gives wrong information to a competitor, who consequently lacks a heat, it can be repeated. The technical director may suspend the heat of an athlete if he thinks this is a legitimate reason to justify the measure.
The technical director should have a table of official notifications where the daily schedule is posted for information of all competitors.
